Installed the app on my iPhone 8. Plugged in a (blank, formatted GUID) 250 GB external USB hard drive to the HCube.  The app recognizes the iPhone and reports the hard drive is connected. "Initialization complete."  The app launches and the hard drive R/W LED begins flickering in a regular pattern.  Hours pass.  Nothing is written to the hard drive.  When I go into the app and try to manually backup just the contacts it reports, "FAILED TO REACH ROOT DIRECTORY."  Root of what?  The phone or the hard drive?  What am I doing wrong?

SOLVED: Well shit.  ATTENTION Apple / Mac / iPhone users:  if you use an external disk drive, it MUST BE FORMATTED "MS DOS FAT" or the hypercube will not work.

Now wouldn't that have been a useful piece of information for you to provide with a product that is designed to work with an Apple iPhone?

    Thanks Bob,

That's been of more help than the companies tech support.

Out of interest - did you use an SSD drive or SATA?

Did you also use the disk utility on the mac or some other means of formatting it to MS DOS FAT?

    TIA

    Sam

I used an old laptop 2 1/2" SATA drive in an external USB case.  I'm a Mac guy so I formatted it using the Disk Utility app.  Hypercube works pretty well once I got it set up right.

My HyperCube hooks up just fine and starts backing up, but it only works for about 5 minutes before it shuts itself off. It's pretty hot to the touch, so I'm assuming it's overheating. I'm using a genuine Apple cord and plug, so I don't know why it would be doing this. Can anyone help!?
