What is USB OTG?
USB OTG (On-The-Go) technology allows COLORSPACE UDMA to interface and exchange data directly with another USB device (card reader, hard drive, digital camera etc.) without going through the computer.
Requirements
- USB OTG Sync Adapter is required to enable USB OTG functionality on the COLORSPACE UDMA.
- COLORSPACE UDMA must be using the latest firmware (V23B and above).
- Reset (System>Reset) the device after every firmware update.
OTG Functions in COLORSPACE UDMA
There are 3 main OTG functions in COLORSPACE UDMA:
- BACKUP from a USB card reader or flash drive (64GB and below).
- SYNC synchronizes the contents of COLORSPACE UDMA with another USB hard drive (> 64GB).
- MANAGER allows you to perform file operations (copy, cut, paste, delete etc.) on another USB device including exchanging data with COLORSPACE UDMA (no size restrictions).
Before starting any OTG function, the user must first connect the USB device to COLORSPACE UDMA via the OTG Sync Adapter.
Protocol of USB Device
The current COLORSPACE UDMA firmware (V23B) only supports USB Mass Storage Device (Bulk Only Mode) protocol. Some of the old USB card reader may be using USB Mass Storage Device (CBI Mode) which is not supported and it will not be recognized by COLORSPACE UDMA. In addition, some digital cameras use PTP protocol which is also not supported by the current firmware (PTP protocol support is planned for firmware V24). There are some digital cameras that use both PTP and USB Mass Storage Device (Bulk Only) protocols and users can select one of the protocol before connecting the USB cable.
Backup (OTG)
- Connect a USB device (e.g. digital camera) to COLORSPACE UDMA via the OTG Sync Adapter
- Capacity of USB device must be 64GB & below and formatted to FAT32 file system
- USB device must be self powered, otherwise plug in the AC adapter into the OTG Sync Adapter. - From the "Backup" menu, select "Backup (OTG)" or "Incremental Backup (OTG)"
Sync
- Connect an external USB hard drive to COLORSPACE UDMA via the OTG Sync Adapter
- External USB hard drive must be larger than 64GB and formatted to FAT32 file system
- You can format the external USB hard drive to FAT32 file system by going to "Tools>OTG>Erase"
- External USB hard drive should be self powered, otherwise plug in the AC adapter into the OTG Sync Adapter. - For synchronization to work, you must designate a (local) folder within COLORSPACE UDMA to synchronize with an (external) folder on the USB hard drive. During synchronization, all the files/subfolders within the local folder will be copied to the external folder and vice versa. For safety reasons, you cannot select the entire hard drive or the main/root directory (e.g. C: or W:) for synchronization. An actual file folder on both devices must be selected.
- You can set all memory card backups to go into one particular folder in COLORSPACE UDMA by going to "Backup>Backup Setup>Path" (e.g. /C/BACKUP)
- You can create an empty folder on the external USB hard drive by going to "Tools>OTG>Manager"
- Select "Tools>OTG>Sync>Select...". Select the local (COLORSPACE UDMA) folder and external (USB hard drive) folder to start synchronization.
- For subsequent synchronization, if there are no changes to the local and external folders, you can just select "Tools>OTG>Sync>Sync" to perform synchronization right away.
Manager
- Connect any USB device to COLORSPACE UDMA via the OTG Sync Adapter
- USB device must be formatted to FAT32 file system. There are no size restrictions.
- USB device must be self powered, otherwise plug in the AC adapter into the OTG Sync Adapter. - Select "Tools>OTG>Manager". The OTG File Manager will start and you can perform file operations (copy, cut, paste, delete etc.) on the USB device including exchanging data between the USB device and COLORSPACE UDMA.
